An animated editorial illustration for an article, “Respectabililty Politics Doesn’t Increase Straight Support for LGB Rights”. Illustrates how more privileged members of the LGBTQ+ community will often distance themselves from the more targeted parts of the community in an attempt to garner more public respect – these efforts are futile. Created with vectors with an emphasis on shape and color.
Process
I began by creating very rough thumbnails, then choosing the most effective one to convey my message. The chosen composition was turned into a rough sketch with rough colors; before I moved to Illustrator, I made a much cleaner, more anatomically correct sketch using references and thinking about the parts of the illustration that would move in the final product.
